Plans for memorial day

Memorial day is next weekend.  After talking about it my wife and I decided to help a friend move saturday, then spend the rest of the weekend relaxing.

Instead of launching the boat at bevil port, we might launch at Martin Dies park, walnut run side.  I would like to throw out some noodles and do some bass fishing while on Dam B.

Summer is here

The weather is starting to warm up, trees have finished blooming, it feels good getting outside and doing something,

A couple of weeks ago my daughter and I made up some noodles for catfishing.  I will probably make up some more in the next couple of weeks.

Walmart only has the pool noodles in for a few months.  So I have to buy the noodles while they are in stock.

Dream last night

Had a bad dream last night. I got lost while driving a truck to a welding shop, stopped at a warehouse to ask for directions.

One of the people working in the warehouse recognized me, as we worked together between 1986 and 1987.

In real life, the guy who recognized me and I really did work together.

While we were working at the whop between 1986 and 1987 the company had gotten low on work, so some of the welders were laid off.

The foreman of the shop happened to be my ex-wifes grandfather (my wife and I were married at the time).

Here it was 26 years later and the guy wanted to fight me for something I did not even do, and something that happened 26 years ago.

Why would I dream about something like that?

Something that might have brought this dream on, around 1993 I went to work for a welding company in Beaumont Texas.  The supervisor was one of the people that had been laid off around 1987.  Here we were 6 years later and he was still pissed off about it.

I did not have anything to do with him being laid off, the company got low on work, and that is just the way things are.

Plans for 2012

As I look forward to 2012, there are certain things that come to mind.

As in previous years, one of my goals is to get in shape and lose weight - like the majority of most people. At 43 years old I am probably the worst shape of my life. I blame my own laziness and my office job.

When I was working in the welding field, I was on my feet for 8 - 12 hours a day doing hard physical labor. Keeping the weight off was pretty easy when you are walking several miles a day.

Something that puts the pounds on is drinking, and I can drink a good bit sometimes. When a beer has 150 calories, drinking 3 or 4 in one night can really add up the calories.

At christmas my nephew asked when we were going on another hiking trip. The thing is, I am so bad out of shape, going on a 9+ mile tip would be rough, very rough.

I guess I need to get down to the park to walk a few laps.

Changes in the world

With the sopa act, its become clear that big business runs the US government.

North korea had a change of leadership

Hopefully we are going to have a new president elected in 2012. The worst thing that can happen is if obama gets reelected.

Guantanamo Bay is still open where people are being held without due process of law.

The federal reserve is still printing money out of thin air.

The US government has borrowed more money then the tax payers can ever hope to payback.

Tensions with Iran are on the rise (as usual).

The US manufacturing base is depleted.

China now has the US manufacturing base.

The average US citizen probably does not realize how dependent we are on other nations. Flooding in Taiwan made the prices of hard drives double. It makes me wonder what would happen if we went to war with china, or if a nuke was detonated in a major US city.

What has me worried is the change of leadership in north korea. Some 20 year old young man now holds the key to nuclear weapons.

Climate change

One thing that really has me worried in the Texas drought. Some predictions say the south could be in for another 10 years of drought. If we think the price of food is bad now, add 2 or 3 years of lost crops into the equation.

My wife and I try to stock up on can goods when they go on sale. One of the plans for 2012 is to keep stocking up on food whenever possible.

February and March should tell us if we are in for another dry year. If we do not get rain in March, we are probably in for a rough ride for the summer of 2012.

Being out on the river

There is no way to describe being out on the river, the sound of the boat motor, the water rushing under the hull of the boat.

To drive on a road is to go where man said you should go.

To be on the water is to go where GOD and nature said you should go.

Water never has pot holes, but it does have waves, wind and rain.

Like riding a motorcycle, there is just something about the wind in your face. But in this case, you are on the water.

Being on the river, and going into sloughs is like going back in time. When summer rolls around and the gators come out, its like back in time 10,000 years. I often wonder what people who lived thousands of years ago lived their lives. How did they fish, what did they think of gators and snakes.

2012 is upon us

As 2012 is upon us, I figured it would be a good time to open a new blog. With this new blog, I hope to reflect, and look forward.

2011 was not a bad year, its just a year I hope not to repeat. My youngest son and my daughter and I had a falling out.

My youngest son and I are talking again, but my daughter is still mad at me. Mad at what, I do not know. When my daughter opens her mouth, her words are not her own, but the are the words of my ex-wife.

Maybe one day my daughter and I will reconnect.

Some of the things I hope to do in 2012 are improve my health and improve my standard of living.

My youngest son turns 18 in 2012. Hopefully I can get his part of the child support behind me.

Dealing with the Texas child support office has been nothing short of a nightmare. Like the time the child support office raised the amount I was supposed to be paying for no reason, and with no due process. They just sent me a letter saying I owed more money and was raising my payments. After calling the child support office and complaining, they agreed to return to what the court order said I was supposed to be paying.

What got me, the stupid people at the child support office wanted to bypass the "due process" part of our legal system. No person shall be devoid of life, liberty or property without due process. I guess the people who wanted to raise my child support that time slept though that part of government class.

Non-custodial parents have to provide insurance and support payments, while dead-beat custodial parents can sit on their ass at home and not do a single thing.

Raising children takes a joint effort on the behalf of both parents, and not just one or the otehr.
